In 2007, WSSI’s founder, Mike Rolband, established the non-profit Wetland Research Initiative (WRI) to fund applied research that can make a real and measurable difference in wetland creation, restoration, and enhancement activities.  WRI has awarded millions of dollars in grants to support projects asking questions about the overall effectiveness of compensatory mitigation efforts and specifically how design and construction practices should be modified to improve compensatory mitigation functions and values.
